Joint and several liability is a type of liability which is imposed on all the relevant parties, even those outside the company. For example, if a person enters your property, slips and hurts himself/herself, the principle of joint and several liability would allow this person to sue not only you as the owner of the property, but possibly also the floor layers (if the floor was laid incorrectly) and/or the manufacturers of the materials (if the material were too slippery).
