Cash flow is the movement of money, either physical or virtual. In a broader sense, it signifies any movement of money. In a more narrow, specialized sense, it can be calculated as a rate at which certain sums of money move in or out of businesses, companies, projects and other enitities. If done so, this rate can be used to measure the effectiveness of enterprises.
