2151. Harbours and navigable canals is a type of real estate according to the Classification of Types of Constructions developed by the United Nation and adopted by the European Union, particularly Eurostat. It is a Level 4 category that is a subset of the ‘215. Harbours, waterways, dams and other waterworks’ class of constructions.
Harbours and navigable canals include the following kinds of real estate:
- sea or river ports (quays, docks, side-docks, jetties, moles, etc.)
- navigable canals
- river works and canal constructions (locks, canal bridges and tunnels), wharves, embankments and tow-paths
It also includes:
- military ports
- shipyards
It does not include:
- lighthouses
- dams and similar water-retaining constructions
- coastal and riverside hydrocarbon terminals
- marinas
Most of the real property in this category is constructions, but not buildings. According to the EU Classification, constructions are structures connected with the ground which are made of construction materials and components and/or for which construction work is carried out. In this respect, the preparation of soil, planting or sowing etc. for agricultural purposes are not regarded as constructions.
